For many companies, a Customer Service Rep. (aka Agent) is the first line of action in assisting their customers. Utilizing work at home employees allows the company to handle a large volume of calls. Customer service jobs, done at home, are part of a virtual call center. The call center is a network of several employees, who work in their own homes dispersed throughout a region, who provide support via the internet and technology. In fact, customer service is THE purpose of call center jobs, whether done at home or not.

If you want to work in the customer service field, it is important to realize that you need to have a an actual office space, or at the very least an area where you can close the door, as privacy and a quiet environment is extremely important. The type of service you provide depends upon the company for which you work. You may aid customers in determining which products suit their specific needs, how to accomplish certain tasks, and define very selective information. You may also resolve account issues and answer sensitive questions.

A pleasant attitude is of utmost importance – you represent the company so how you deal with THEIR customers reflects upon them. Additionally, you have to have a thick skin. Don’t take it personally if the customer is upset. And by all means, don’t ever raise your voice to a customer.

The average pay is between $8.00 and $15.00 per hour, working a minimum of 20 hours per week. This is actually a decent way to make a living, if you ask me.
