What is Elance and how does it work ?
Elance is one of my favorite freelance sites ! Not only is it easy to use as a means to find online jobs (or gigs), it is a great way to get your name and talents “out there”. Elance offers you the flexibility of working at home and the control of working when your want to. Although we use the term “job” within this write-up, we do not mean the typical J-O-B. we are referring to a contractor / client relationship where you, as the contractor, work at home and not for an employer.
To get started with Elance, you create an account, create a profile, search for a job in your desired category, apply for the job, and (if your proposal is accepted), perform the work.
It is free to sign up on Elance. They makes their money when work is done and payments are made. When contractors and clients agree on an hourly rate or fixed price, the price includes the Elance fees (which is between 6.75% and 8.75%).
How Do I Get A Job With Elance ?
When you find a job that interests you can view the full description, which will tell you more about the client and their feedback from other contractors. Via Elance, you contact the provider with your proposal for the job and they contact you if they want to hire you. Once you begin working, Elance continues to provide the tools needed to communicate with the client.
Will I Really Be My Own Boss ?
Yep, you sure will. As we mentioned earlier, you are a contractor. Also known as a 1099′er. You don’t have to report to a manager, you don’t have to commute, you don’t have to work except when you want to. All that being said, you do have to perform great work and communicate well with your Elance client.
How Much Will I Get Paid ?
That is entirely up to you. Do some research to determine how much people in your field of interest charge and charge comparable rates. The hardest part is figuring out the right rate…too high and you may not get any gigs. Too low and you may come off as being too cheap. There is a happy balance, believe me.
How Do I Get Paid ?
Elance makes this process very simple. When your client pays you, the funds are placed into your Elance account for you to withdraw. Don’t worry, Elance has a licensed escrow that protects both you and your client. Elance also has a Work View system that ensures you are paid for every hour worked (similar to a time card).Google+
