If you’re reading this post then It’s obvious you know how to use the internet and navigate
through the online world of websites. How would you like to make some money while you look at websites?
What is Website Usability Testing?
What am I talking about? Website usability testing, an easy and convenient way to make money online. Basically, you test websites for functionality, aesthetics, and overall user experience and report your findings to the company – this process is referred to as a test )or review, or post). Yep, companies actually pay to have strangers review their sites. It is an important part of marketing and growth for the company and it puts a little bit of money in your pocket.
To give you a bit more detail, a start-up company contacts one of the website testing companies telling them they need real people to review their website. You sign-up with a website testing company (any or all of the ones listed below), review websites, and get paid. The testing companies I have looked into allow you to make money in one of two ways:
- 1. invitations via email to their registered “testers” – which is typically first-come, first-served. So act fast to get in on the action, or
- 2. by the company selecting your review (aka post).
Certain pieces of equipment may be required, such as high speed internet, a webcam or microphone,
so be sure to read all the terms.
Each website testing company operates in a similar manner, however each website review may require different information and skills. Sounds a bit confusing, huh ? Don’t worry, it’s not. You just have to read what is expected of you when you start the website review. As an example, you may be asked to visit different parts of a website and provide feedback as to how easy (or difficult)it was to navigate. Or, you may be asked to add things to a shopping cart to test the functionality. It is important to provide well recorded (spoken), and/or written test results that are comprehensive and useful. The better your review test, the more likely you are to earn money.
So How Much Can You Make ?
The amount you earn depends on the testing company you are working for. Understand that you should not rely on this type of work as a full-time income. The pay ranges from $5.00 – $12.00 per website review / feedback, but some of the companies limit how many reviews you can do. And, for the most part, your earned income is deposited into your Paypal account.
Ready to get started making money as a website tester ?
YouEye This is a newer company offering online user testing. This is the best paying testing company I am aware of: $12.00 per completed / approved useability test. The average time to complete a test is 15 to 20 minutes. As tests become available, you will be notified via email so check your inbox often. Keep in mind that this is a newer company and they’re building their customer profile, so there may be quite a bit of competition to be a test.
Startuplift Complete assigned tasks, share your thoughts and make $5.00 per test. Assigned tasks are on a first-come, first-served basis, so check your email often for possible tasks. Startuplift recommends you complete no more than 5 tests per day, but heck – that’s potentially $25.00 ! Payment is deposited into you Paypal account each Monday.
User Testing Using their online screen recorder, you record a video talking about the website you are reviewing. Additionally you may have to record your mouse movements, keystrokes, and clicks within the website. Once your sample test is approved, you will receive email notifications of available jobs. They claim to post new tests daily. Pay is $10.00 per test and paid into your Paypal account.
Userlytics You will be rating websites, advertisements, videos and other material for functionality, site navigation, design, and specific processes such as check-out and search functions. A typical test takes 10 to 20 minutes to complete, and you will earn at least $10.00 per test. Payment will be deposited into your paypal account.
Userfeel Conduct useability tests on websites to reveal any possible issues. Userfeel is another one that requires the use of a microphone to record your thoughts, so you must be able to speak loudly and clearly and provide useful comments. After signing up, you have to complete a sample test. It can take anywhere from a week to 2 months to be approved to be a website tester. For each test completed and approved, you are paid $10.00, which is deposited into your Paypal account at the end of each week.
What Users Do Based in the UK, you use a microphone to record (speak) your thoughts on the particular website you are testing. A broadband internet connection and a microphone are required, as well as a Paypal account (you want to be paid, don’t you ?). Pay is up to $8.00 per accepted recorded test and deposited into your paypal account on approximately the 25th of the month. The estimated time to complete a test is 20 minutes.Visit EWomanWeb.com on Google+
